Honolulu Zoo

Ever since I was a kid living in Hawaii, the Honolulu Zoo has been one of my favorite places. So you can probably imagine how happy I was to find out that Jasmine was going on a field trip there this week.
Of course I brought my camera with me, so a few zoo pictures will be today’s Hawaii Picture of the Day.
Right outside the zoo, is a giant banyan tree that I can remember playing in when I was a kid way back in the late 70s.

Before you go through the gate, there’s a little booth outside where you can purchase a Zoo Membership. It’s quite reasonable at $40 a year for a family of 6.

After you go through the gate, the first site to greet you is the orange flamingos:

Next we went to the plains to see things like antelope:

Since it was a field trip, the kids had to take notes on a clipboard recording all the animals they saw:

And of course two of our favorites sites during the day were the Peacock and the Tiger:

All in all, it was very fun day. If you’d like to learn more about the Honolulu Zoo, just pop on over to http://www.honoluluzoo.org/
Aloha til next time,
Todd

Thank you for taking those breath-taking pictures of Honolulu. We heard about military members visiting Hawaii. My Father was in the military for thirty-eight years. He fought in two wars for his country. However, he was stricken with cancer in Vietnam. My mother’s husband and our father finally passed away on August 29, 2006 after loosing the battle. He was laid, “Where Hero’s Rest. My mother wants to go to Hawaii to refreshed and restore herself. My mother and dad had been married for 58years and raised nine children in the military. I want to find out more information about Bellowsafs.com for military families vacations in Hawaii.
thanks again for the awesome pictures.

Hi Ramona,
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures. I have about 7 more months left here in Hawaii, so I’ll be trying to get as many pictures up on the blog between now and then as I can … both for my memories, and readers enjoyment.
I’m sorry to hear about your dad, but I salute him for his great service to our country.
I don’t blame your mother a bit for wanting to come visit Hawaii.
Bellows Air Force Beach is great place for both active duty and retirees to stay while they’re here in Hawaii. My parents and a few of their friends, come over here and stay at Bellows almost every year. Unfortunately, for retirees, you pretty much have to make your reservations a year in advance … so you’ll need to start planning the trip well ahead of time.
You can get more specific information right from the source at http://www.bellowsafs.com/
Hope this helps … and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask away … I’ll do my best to either answer myself, or point you in the right direction.
Talk to you again soon,
Todd
